What tests do I have to take to be a teacher?
Teaching certification requirements vary by program area. All aspiring teachers must pass the TExES Content Exam for their chosen field and the TExES PPR (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities) exam. In addition, candidates seeking certification in Core-Subjects EC-6, Core-Subjects 4-8, ELAR 4-8, & ELAR/SS 4-8 must also pass the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) exam.
How many times can I take the exam?
Test takers are limited to 5 attempts on any certification test under Texas Education Code § 21.048(a-1).

If a fail an exam, when can I register to take the same exam again?
There is a 30-day waiting period before you can retest. You will contact the Office of Educator Preparation Programs & Certification for permission to re-register.
